One of the most powerful things on our planet is our tongues. Every person has been given a tremendous ability to bless or curse other people. The book of Proverbs goes as far to say that “death and life are in the power of the tongue (Prov 18:21).”

One of the primary responsibilities of parents is to bless their children. I have met many people who remember words of cursing from their parents and are still wounded 20, 40 or even 50 years later. Word’s such as “you are hopeless or useless” only produce anger and resentment later in life. Often mothers and fathers don’t realise the impact they are having by what they say.

Simple words such as ‘I love you’ or ‘I am proud of you’ will help release a child in their God given destiny. We don’t always like what our children do but we love them despite of what they do. That is what God is like. The bible says that “While we were yet sinners Christ died for us.”

Whether you are old or young you have the ability to bless others with your tongue. You will either bring life or death to the people you speak to. Proverbs 12:18 reads “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

Many Aussies find it hard to express the words that we have in our hearts even towards our loved ones. How many of us have regretted not saying words such as ‘thank you’ or ‘I love you’ to people who have already passed on in this life.

Jesus said that the words we speak are actually an overflow of what is in our hearts. If we are continually speaking profanities and negativities towards others maybe we need to ask the One who can change hearts to do surgery on us. You have the ability to bring blessing or cursing on others with your tongues.
